There is a lot of information available on the internet as it relates to ceramic tile installation. Some of this content is helpful and valuable, but in many instances the information is incorrect and misleading. As a leading trade association comprised of tile installation contracting companies, the NTCA established a Consumer Education Committee to help provide direction and clarity for consumers seeking information about ceramic tile installation. The Committee is dedicated to clearing up common misconceptions often found related to tile installations. Documents will be developed for both consumers to review and for tile industry professionals to share with their customers. The following documents are currently available for review and use.

  • Qualified tile contractors have the verifiable experience and use proper methods and materials. But how do you know your contractor is qualified? This document will answer 13 questions on how to find the right tile installer.
  • Many times, a leaking shower can be the result of an unqualified person performing the work. A leaking tile shower can damage other areas of the bathroom or even the room below the shower. There are multiple reasons why this could happen. Use this document to learn what they are, and how to avoid them.
  • Often when you have loose tile or cracked grout, the problem is the result of improper tile installation methods. While these symptoms can be caused by various tile installation errors, many times the culprit is known as spot bonding. This document will help you determine if spot bonding could be your issue.

In this study, life-cycle cost analysis is used to compare 18 types of flooring installed in a typical office. This analysis is a powerful tool to aid decision makers in evaluating all relevant costs for a building system. Although this study was based on flooring use in a light-to-medium commercial application, many of the results would be applicable to residential use as well. The analysis includes the installed cost for each of the different types of flooring as well as costs associated with the daily cleaning practices to the flooring.
